Australia Day 2008 Awards are now Open for nomination

The 2008 Hawkesbury Australia Day Award nominations are open for the community to nominate and recommend a person/s that they feel is worthy for one of the prestigious awards.

The Hawkesbury Australia Day Awards recognise those in the community who continue to achieve and contribute. Whether it be in sport, in community arts, in community service, as a community member or as a young achiever. The awards, based on a process of nomination and selection by a Council committee, recognise achievements in the following categories:

Citizen of the Year
Young Person of the Year
Sports Person of the Year
Community Arts Award
Commemorative Plaque
Community Organisation of the Year
Special Achievement Award

The Hawkesbury City Council Australia Day Awards are held in conjunction with the Australia Day Council, and have been designed to recognise residents of the Hawkesbury who have made an outstanding contribution to the local community.

The Hawkesbury City Council Australia Day Awards are open for public nominations in four categories:

Young Citizen of the Year

For significant contributions to the Hawkesbury community

Must be an Australian Citizen
Must be a Hawkesbury resident
Must be under the age of 25 (as at 26/01/2008)
Involved in voluntary work
Must not have received this award before

Sportsperson Award

For outstanding achievements in the sporting domain

Must be an Australian Citizen
Must be a Hawkesbury resident
Must not have received this award before

Community Arts Award

For significant contributions to the Hawkesbury’s cultural development

Must be an Australian Citizen
Must be a Hawkesbury resident
Must not have received this award before

Commemorative Plaque Award

This is a posthumous (5 years) award

Awarded to a resident who contributed significantly to the Hawkesbury community
Must not have received this award before.
