Hawkesbury Sporting Profile

The Hawkesbury has 23 sporting fields, reserves and ovals which include - Richmond Oval, Icely Park, Tamplin Field, Pound Paddock, Bensons Complex, McQuade Park, Don't Worry Oval, Deerubbin Park, Mileham Netball, Berger Reserve, Bounty Reserve, Colonial Reserve, Vineyard Park, Oakville Oval, Brinsley Park, Colbee Park, Glossodia Park, Woodlands Park, Woodbury Estate, Turnbull Oval, Breakaways, Peel Park, Powell Park.

The sporting grounds are located in Richmond, Hobartville, Windsor, South Windsor, Bligh park, Vineyard, Oakville, Pitt Town, McGraths Hill, Glossodia, Wilberforce, North Richmond, Freemans Reach, and Kurrajong Heights.

Clients and groups utilising the facilities in summer include:

Table 1 displays the participation rates of the different sports within the Hawkesbury with over 8895 people participating in sport. Soccer is the most participated sport within the Hawkesbury with 2621 players for the 2004/2005 Season. Each sport shows an anticipated steady increase for the 2006 season.

The Hawkesbury City Council delegates responsibility of for maintenance of the Hawkesbury Sports Council. This organisation is an incorporated body with a committee of volunteers who represent sporting interests in the Hawkesbury.

Facilities managed by the Hawkesbury Sports Council are:

  • 5 tennis courts
  • 2 BMX tracks
  • 11 practise cricket nets
  • 9 turf cricket wickets
  • 21 synthetic cricket wickets
  • 19 sealed netball courts and 8 grass courts
  • 2 rugby union fields
  • 3 rugby league fields
  • 26 soccer fields which include training fields
  • 14 softball diamonds, 9 turf practice nets, 5 synthetic practice nets and 3 shelters
  • 9 baseball diamonds
  • 2 Aussie rules fields
  • Athletics field

The majority of these sporting grounds have amenities, canteen facilities and lights.
