2010 Celebrations in the Hawkesbury

Council established the Hawkesbury Macquarie 2010 Bicentenary Committee to facilitate the community’s response to the 200th anniversary celebrations.

Major roles that the Committee fulfilled were:

  • Developing and promoting an overall and co-ordinated calendar of events and activities that Council and community groups staged during 2010.  Macquarie 2010 Bicentenary Events Program - Record of Events
  • Presenting a seminar for community groups to assist them in gaining information and skills in event planning and staging
  • Co-ordinating branding and promotion of the Hawkesbury’s Macquarie 2010 Bicentenary Program
  • Promoting Council’s Community Sponsorship Program, under which community groups and individuals could seek funding support.

         

The Hawkesbury Macquarie 2010 Committee received a Special Achievement Award on Australia Day 2011 for their outstanding efforts in supporting the community in celebrating the Bicentenary of Lachlan Macquarie becoming the Governor of New South Wales and naming the five Macquarie towns. The award recognised their outstanding efforts within the Hawkesbury community and the support they offered to community organisations who hosted events and activities during such an exciting and special year.
