Camping at Upper Colo Reserve

Colo Wilderness has been identified as one of the 20 real wilderness areas remaining in South East Australia.

Camping / Recreation Reserve situated beside the Colo River and covers 13.8 hectares, two-thirds is native bushland.

  • The Reserve is isolated but easily accessible by private vehicle and is surrounded by Wollemi National Park.
  • The road is a narrow winding gravel road not suitable for caravans.
  • Cleared area suitable for camping.
  • A rainwater tank has been provided, but it is suggested that campers bring their own drinking water.
  • Cold bore water showers only.
  • Dogs to be registered and kept on leash.
  • There are no powered sites.
  • No firewood is to be collected from the Reserve or the National Park.  Please bring your own firewood.
  • No generators or chainsaws permitted.

Bookings must be made by contacting Council on the numbers below.  If you do not have a booking you may be turned away.

Charges:

Under 5 years No Charge
5 -12 years $4.00
Adults $6.00
PLEASE NOTE: Conditions apply - to be notified in approval letter.

Bookings limited to 150 people per night.

Opening hours:

The Reserve is open all year round. The gate to the Reserve is kept locked at all times by way of a combination padlock.  The combination is changed regularly.  Campers can obtain this code by contacting Council during business hours from Tuesday prior to arrival.  Please see contact details below.  Day trippers are welcome, but will need to leave their vehicles outside the gate.

Brief directions:

Turn right off Upper Colo Road into Colo Heights Road cross over the wooden bridge then turn left at the Telstra Tower into Hulbert Road then veer left at the "Y" intersection to enter the Upper Colo Reserve.
