Food Premises Design & Construction Requirements

All food shops in the Hawkesbury are to be constructed and fitted out in such a way that they can be easily and effectively cleaned and maintained, possible harbourage of vermin minimised and standards of hygiene and food handling maintained at the highest possible level.

Plans must be submitted to Council in respect of any alterations or refitting of food shops, and the building application approved prior to the commencement of any works. Please note, planning consent may also be required particularly for larger works or work within a heritage building. Councils planners can be contacted between 8.30am and 10.30am on (02) 4560 4444.

Council's Food Premises Fit Out Code and Australian Standard AS4674-2004 "Design, construction and fit-out of food premises" provide specific detail on the materials and techniques recommended to enable compliance with the food safety standards.
