  • The winners of the 2018 Hawkesbury Sports Awards were announced at a special presentation evening at Lynwood Country Club on Monday, 21 May.

Congratulations to all of our winners. My sincere thanks to the members of our Civic and Citizenship Committee who thoughtfully assess every nomination for these awards. It is never an easy task with so many great nominations received.

The Hawkesbury Sports Awards program has been run as an annual event since 2004 as a civic award program which was developed to recognise positive contributions to sport in the Hawkesbury. Proudly sponsored by Lynwood Country Club, Council’s program acknowledges the sporting accomplishments of community members as well as the contributions of individuals to sporting clubs through support roles.
  • I also want to remind you that the Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal doorknock will be held this weekend of 26-27 May.

Every donation counts, whether big or small. $28 helps children at risk of homelessness participate in an after-school program, $60 provides a food hamper so that a struggling family doesn’t have to go hungry, and $79 provides one day of support for a family to find a home.

Following last year’s success, The Salvation Army is once again rolling out its Donation Tap Points across 400 locations in Australia. This community fundraising initiative was the first of its kind within the non-profit sector when it was introduced in Australia last year. The service provides more effective, safer, and more meaningful donation opportunities across the country.

The money raised from the Red Shield Appeal doorknock supports The Salvation Army’s vast network of social services to help those in need. In a typical week, the Salvos provide over 17,000 beds for those suffering homelessness, 40,000 meals for the hungry, over 1,400 financial counselling sessions and refuge for over 100 women affected by domestic violence.

To donate, please call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) or register online at www.salvos.org.au

Tomorrow night, Friday, 25 May I have the privilege of opening the ARTEXPRESS exhibition at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, 300 George Street, Windsor that features outstanding student artworks created for the 2017 HSC Visual Arts examination.

This is a free community event and I warmly invite you all to come along at 6pm to explore and enjoy the diverse range of artworks on display.
