Hawkesbury Riverboats

2012 - present

The model boats displayed in the Hawkesbury Riverboats exhibition are exact replicas of many of the boats which were employed to service the Hawkesbury River community. Eric Mitchell (1904-2002), the maker of over 60 model boats, generously donated some of his collection to the Hawkesbury Historical Society, so that future generations could appreciate and learn of the great importance boats had for the people of the Hawkesbury. Used for transporting goods, produce, livestock and people along the river to various stops including Windsor, Wisemans Ferry, Spencer, Brooklyn and further on to Sydney Harbour, the boats and the boat builders provided a crucial function of the day to day operations for local farmers and the wider community.
