Citizen of the Month latest winners announced
Hawkesbury City Council is proud to announce that the recipients of the Hawkesbury Citizen of the Month awards for September and October are Penny Cousens and Carolyn McKensie.
Hawkesbury City Council, in conjunction with the Richmond Club conducts a Citizen of the Month Program. The Citizen of the Month recipients are chosen for their service and commitment to the community. They are Australian citizens and local residents who receive a certificate on Australia Day the following year, to acknowledge their hard work and efforts. The recipients are in the running for the Citizen of the Year award which is also presented on Australia Day.
To nominate a person for Citizen of the Month, you will need to fill in a Citizen of the Month nomination form available from Council, The Richmond Club, Hawkesbury Central Library and on Council's website www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au . There is no limit to the amount of nominations that an individual can submit. Please submit all forms to the Public Relations Officer, Hawkesbury City Council, PO Box 146, Windsor, NSW, 2756.
September winner: Dr Penny Cousens
1. Past President Dharug and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society (March 2004 - March 2007). Still a member of the Committee. Since March 2007 has maintained archive and handles the family history enquiries. Physically transferred all archives from one building to an another on the same property. Is still very active in this group.
2. A founding member of The Ferry Artist Gallery (established 2003) which is a small Gallery in Wisemans Ferry which sells Pottery, jewellery, paintings. Treasurer of this group for the first couple of years.
3. Coordinator of the Wisemans Ferry Cancer support Group at Wisemans Ferry which she started in 2007. This is a very successful group with 12 members who meet fortnightly.
4. A committee member of the Wisemans Ferry and Districts Community Health and Resource Centre Inc. from 2002 which supplies a Medical Centre (our medical centre is owned by the people of the valley). On and off the committee for 5 years (had to step down for several years as she worked for the organisation). Stepped down from committee in 2009.
5. The most important thing is she is a nice person and a very reliable member of the community,” said her nominator Heather Winch”.
October winner – Carolyn McKenzie
Carolyn McKenzie has been involved with the Hawkesbury City Eisteddfod for over 25 years (since 1984). Her selfless untiring efforts in ensuring the event is supported has assisted the Hawkesbury Community to benefit from a wonderful cultural event that is well supported by local schools, community members and proudly sponsored by the Council.
“Carolyn's teaching ability has encouraged and nurtured many students over the last 20 years,” said her nominator Gillian Wilkins.
Carolyn has held the role of Secretary for 15 years, then assistant secretary, then back to Secretary. A total of 17 years as Secretary and a total of 25 years on the committee.
She has also been Treasurer of Australian Speech Communication Association since 2002 and an executive Committee member of this association since 1984. She is on a panel of examiners that travel around Country examining students (paid role).
