Winners - Hawkesbury Garden Competition
Gardens turned red in Sydney’s memorable dust storm in September but local gardeners still have a reason to smile with the announcement of the winners of the Hawkesbury City Council Garden Competition. The winners of the annual prestigious competition were revealed at a ceremony held at the Richmond Club on Wednesday night, 14 October 2009, to a large crowd of gardening fans, family and friends.
Barry and Merle Lester of Kurrajong Heights won the category for Grand Champion Garden. They won a Captain Cook Cruise, a horticultural gift pack and a Grand Champion Garden Perpetual Trophy.
Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kevin Conolly officiated with Councillors Jill Reardon also representing Council.
"The Hawkesbury Garden Competition helps create a brighter and more pleasant place to live," Deputy Mayor, Clr Conolly said.
“It is fantastic to see so many entrants this year, especially with the ongoing water restrictions that you as gardeners have had to endure this year. Those of you who entered have again shown the Hawkesbury spirit and worked your way through severe weather,” he said.
Council would like to congratulate all the members of the Hawkesbury District Camera Club for donating their time for the competition and photographing every garden. Sponsors of the event included Seasol and Neutrog Australia Pty Ltd as well as Hawkesbury City Council. Full list below.
