The 2013 Hawkesbury Australia Day Award nominations are open for the community to nominate and recommend a person/s that they feel is worthy for one of the prestigious awards.

The Hawkesbury Australia Day Awards recognise those in the community who continue to achieve and contribute. Whether it be:

  • Sport
  • Community arts
  • Community service
  • A community member
  • Young achiever

The awards, based on a process of nomination and selection by a Council committee recognise achievements in the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Person of the Year
  • Sports Person of the Year
  • Cultural Heritage Award
  • Community Arts Award
  • Commemorative Plaque
  • Community organisation of the Year
  • Special Achievement Award 

The Hawkesbury City Council Australia Day Awards are held in conjunction with the Australia Day Council, and have been designed to recognise residents of the Hawkesbury who have made an outstanding contribution to the local community.  The awards are open for public nominations in three categories:

Sportsperson Award

  • Outstanding achievements in the sporting domain
  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Be a resident of the Hawkesbury
  • Must not have received this award before

Cultural Heritage Award

  • Significant contributions to the Hawkesbury’s cultural heritage development
  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Be a resident of the Hawkesbury
  • Must not have received this award before

Community Arts Award

  • Significant contributions to the Hawkesbury’s cultural art development
  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Be a resident of the Hawkesbury
  • Must not have received this award before

Commemorative Plaque Award

  • This is a posthumous (5 years) award
  • Awarded to a resident who contributed significantly to the Hawkesbury community
  • Must not have received this award before

Previous Winners of Australia Day Awards

Citizen of the Year

Citizen of the Year will be chosen from the four seasonal winners. Young Citizen of the Year will also be chosen from the four seasonal winners. Non-residents demonstrating extensive commitment or significant contribution to the Hawkesbury are now eligible for nomination for Citizen of the Season or Young Citizen of the Season due to recent changes to the Award criteria. Both Citizen of the Season and Young Citizen of the Season nominations are taken all year round.
