Council’s Family Fun Day and 2017 Swimathon proves fun for all

Sunday’s YMCA Swimathon and Council’s Family Fun Day was a real hit with the local community at Oasis Aquatic and Leisure Centre in South Windsor.

Following an official launch of the upgraded Council facilities by the Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett, the Centre’s 2017 YMCA Swimathon kicked off. Swimmers set amazing challenges for themselves - with some swimming as many as five kilometres for the annual Swimathon, which raises funds for swimming programs for people with a disability.

Children flocked to the Centre with their families for the free face painting, games, a jumping castle and fun in the pool.

The Mayor enjoyed cheering on the eager swimmers just as much as launching the new upgrades and meeting community members.

The $760,000 worth of upgrades and refurbishments include a brand new timber sprung floor and ceilings in the group fitness room, an overhaul of the female and male bathrooms, family change rooms with baby change tables and showers to ensure youth security, and valued facilities for the disabled visitors.

Facilities for people with disabilities include a cold filtered wheelchair compliant water dispenser and sensored lighting in the bathrooms. Outside the building, the refurbishments include a grassed area, shade sails and accessible pathway. One of the most extensive changes is the upgraded pool filter and heat pump to ensure the cleanliness and temperature of the outdoor pool.

Oasis Aquatic and Leisure Centre offers great value on memberships, which allows full access to all facilities including a fully equipped Health Club comprising of small group training classes, group fitness classes as well as the pool, sauna and steam rooms. Creche, personal training and boot camps are also available as additional services. Swimming lessons are available seven days for all levels. The YMCA Swimathon, is an annual national fundraising event to raise money for swimming programs for people with disability. You can still donate too! So far, $3,745.46 has been raised by swimmers at Oasis Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Visit the YMCA Swimathon website and type in 2756 postcode for your local Centre.
