Last chance to register for the Waste 2 Art competition!

Don’t forget to register to enter the 2017 ‘Waste 2 Art’ Competition, which closes on Wednesday, 28 June 2017 at 11:59pm. Artworks do not need to be submitted until Tuesday, 25 July 2017.

Hawkesbury City Council’s Waste 2 Art Competition focuses on the REUSE part of the 3Rs of the waste hierarchy, (reuse, reduce, recycle) to specifically show how Primary School students can give waste a new purpose by transforming it into a creative piece of artwork. Through Waste 2 Art, Council hopes to encourage students to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

Students are invited to create individual and unique artworks, either 2D or 3D, which must be made entirely of used/recycled materials. The creative works will be exhibited throughout Local Government Week, from Monday, 31 July – Sunday, 6 August at the Deerubbin Centre, Windsor with a presentation of prizes at an opening ceremony on Monday, 31 July.

Students will be judged as per Stages 1, 2 and 3 (i.e. Stage 1 is Kindy to Year 2, Stage 2 is Years 3 to 4, and Stage 3 is Years 5 to 6). Four prizes will be awarded per stage:

  • 1st prize – $200 gift voucher for art supplies
  • 2nd Prize – $100 gift voucher for art supplies
  • 3rd Prize – $50 gift voucher for art supplies
  • Highly Commended – art hamper.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett encourages parents to register their interested children for the competition.

“Year after year this competition is a success and I am proud to be part of a program that helps school students to think about better ways to reduce, reuse and recycle waste,” the Mayor said.

An online registration form with all the guidelines for artwork and conditions of entry is available here.

All registrations must be completed online by the student’s parent or guardian.

Registrations cannot be accepted after Wednesday, 28 June at 11:59 pm and every entry must be registered.
