Mental Health Forum

Hawkesbury City Council is hosting a Mental Health Forum and Community Consultation on Thursday, 30 March 2017, as a part of community consultation to develop the Hawkesbury Disability Inclusion Access Plan.

The Mental Health Forum will be held at Hawkesbury Leisure and Learning Centre, 114 March St, Richmond on Thursday, 30 March 2017. Two sessions will be held and participants can choose either a 1:30pm to 4pm session or a 5:30pm to 8pm session.

Mental health consumers and health service providers will be present on the day, followed by a facilitated discussion to identify ways to improve the well-being of our community.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett hopes the forum will raise issues about improving mental health support for local people.

“I’m pleased that Council is hosting a Mental Health Forum because it acknowledges that mental health issues impact our entire community,” the Mayor said.

“We will have two speakers who will share their very personal experience with us, both as a carer and a person who has experienced mental health issues.”

There will also be the chance to hear from a mental health nurse with over 15 years’ experience working at the most acute point of treatment, as well a closing presentation from the Acting Manager, Counselling Services, from our local hospital.

“We also hope to learn about our community members’ experiences regarding mental health service access and support in the Hawkesbury,” Councillor Lyons-Buckett continued.

“Issues raised at the Forum will be fed directly into our Disability Inclusion Action Plan, a social plan which commits Council to working with the community to improve inclusion for people with disabilities, including mental health.”

Light refreshments will be available – please provide details of dietary requirements for catering purposes.
