Get involved in Hawkesbury’s Local Government Week

How well do you know your local Council? Local Government Week 2009 is a chance to get to know us better! You can meet local staff and join in lots of fun activities. Local Government Week 2009 will be held from 3-9 August with the theme ‘Keeping it Local’.

Local Government Week provides a chance for the community to learn about Hawkesbury City Council and the important services that local government provides.

National Tree Day
Sunday, 2 August 2009, 10am-midday

What to bring: Sun hat, sturdy shoes, long sleeve shirt, long pants, sunscreen and refreshments. A free BBQ will be provided for all participants; this is a great family day.

The Navua Reserve Experience

The Navua Community Group has been restoring Navua Reserve for over 10 years. They are a group of volunteers that welcome all newcomers who are keen to help and are not afraid of getting their hands dirty.

Diaspora: Mapping migration in textiles, reflecting artist Jill Kinnear’s personal experience as a Scottish migrant.
This printed textiles exhibition draws on Jill Kinnear’s personal experience of migration from Scotland to Australia – the myths and memories of migratory experience and the journey between these geographic extremes.

Vessels of hope, a project commemorating convict women by Tasmanian conceptual artist Christina Henri
Artist Christina Henri pays tribute to the lives of all convict women sent to Australia – 'Roses from the Heart'.

Hawkesbury Regional Museum

Special exhibition: John Tebbutt, the Hawkesbury’s famous astronomer. In 1973 a crater on the Moon was named in honour of John Tebbutt and nine years later his image was placed on the back of the new $100 note. Also on show are a number of telescopes from the collection of Hawkesbury Astronomical Society, space toys on loan from a Hawkesbury collector and archival film footage showing NASA astronauts playing with toys in space.

Richmond Lawn Cemetery – New Fees and charges

A new Rose garden has been built at the Richmond Lawn Cemetery for the interment of ashes. Council at its Ordinary meeting of 30 June 2009 resolved that ‘The proposed fees for the new rose garden be placed on public exhibition’. The fees include:

  • Niche in old rose garden/columbarium (includes stainless steel plaque) $400.00
  • Niche in new rose garden $400.00
  • First interment in new rose garden $200.00
  • Second Interment in new rose garden $150.00
  • Bronze Plaque fixed to a sandstone base $300.00
  • Laser cut steel plaque fixed to a sandstone base $200.00

The community is invited to provide comment on the new fees and charges via written submissions sent to Council by any of the methods listed below by 21 August 2009:

Installation of CCTV cameras at Bowen Mountain Park - Comments Invited...

Bowen Mountain Park Committee are proposing to install CCTV cameras within Bowen Mountain Park for the purpose of ensuring the safety and security of the public and the parks facilities. The Parks Committee are in the process of developing a policy/procedure regarding the use of these cameras, such as when and how the footage can be viewed.
