Welcome to the 2010 Hawkesbury Garden Competition proudly brought to you by Hawkesbury City Council and our major sponsors Seasol, Bettergrow & Neutrog. We look forward to receiving many entries. First prize winners will automatically be entered into the running to be named "Champion Garden 2010". Entries that have their garden judged will be automatically entered into the running to be named "Best Garden by Location". Photographs will be taken of all gardens and these will be available for order on the presentation night through the Hawkesbury Camera Club.

Categories Description

1. Best Front Garden
Section of the garden that is generally visible from the road

2. Best Back Garden
Section of the garden that is generally located at the rear of the house

3. Best Colourful Garden
Gardens displaying the best use of colour.

4. Best acreage GardenGardens must be more than 1 acre Local schools

5. Best Kids Garden
Garden maintained by children

6. Best new Garden
The garden must be less than 5 years old.

7. Best Environmentally Friendly Garden
Use of waterwise gardening, mulch, native planting etc.

8. Best Non-Residential Garden
Churches, Retirement Villages, Hospitals, Commercial Landscapes.'

9. Best Education Institution Garden

10. Best Educational Vegie Garden
Local School Vegie patches

Conditions of Entry
Judging will take place on the week of :

  • 21 Sept for gardens located in the following areas: Richmond/ Hobartville/ Agnes Banks/ Windsor/ South Windsor/ Bligh Park/ Windsor Downs/ Pitt Town
  • 22 Sept for gardens located in the following areas: Vineyard/ McGraths Hill/ North Richmond/ Glossodia/ Freemans Reach/ Wilberforce/ Ebenezer/ Kurrajong/ Kurmond.
  • 23 Sept for gardens located in the following areas: Kurrajong Heights/ Bilpin/ Grose Wold/ Grose Vale/ Bowen Mountain.

It is your responsibility to ensure appropriate access to any garden entered into the competition. You may enter a maximum of 2 categories only. The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Notice is given pursuant to Section 79(1)(d) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979, that Hawkesbury City Council is in receipt of an Designated Development Application for the continued operation of existing sandstone quarry and sandstone sawing plant at Lot 111 DP 1069071, 21A Bullridge Road, East Kurrajong and Lot 4 DP 556534, 940 Putty Road, East Kurrajong.

The applicant is Damian Charles Milgate. Hawkesbury City Council is the consent authority. The application is to be determined by Sydney West Region Planning Panel.

The proposed development is defined as designated development under Section 77A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The development application and supporting information, including an environmental impact statement, may be inspected during ordinary office hours from Friday 3 September 2010 to Monday 4 October 2010 at:

During the public exhibition period (3/09/2010 to 4/10/2010) any person may make a submission in writing to Hawkesbury City Council in relation to the development application. Submissions will be provided to the Sydney West Region Planning Panel and may be viewed by other persons with an interest in the application. Where a submission by way of objection is made, the grounds for objection are to be specified in the submission.

Under Section 147(5) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, any person who makes a submission to Council is required to disclose any Political Donation or Gift. Any submission made is to be accompanied by a Political Donation and Gift Disclosure Statement. This statement is available from Hawkesbury City Council.

Please note that confidentiality is not available to objectors. The details of any submissions may be included in a Council report or forwarded to the applicant where it may help to resolve design or operational problems. Information (including copies of submissions) may also be released in accordance with Council Policy for Access to Information.

An objector who is dissatisfied with the determination of a consent authority to grant consent to a development application for designated development (including designated development that is integrated development) either unconditionally or subject to conditions may, within 28 days after the date on which notice of the determination was given in accordance with the regulations, and in accordance with rules of court, appeal to the Court in accordance with Section 98 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979 unless the proposed development is development about which the Planning Assessment Commission has conducted a review. Should the Planning Assessment Commission conduct a review of the application, the Minister's determination of the application is final and not subject to appeal.
