Bushcare Basic Course

Hawkesbury Bushcare will be running a “Bushcare Basics” course on Saturday, 4 June 2011 at the Hawkesbury Community Nursery Mulgrave. The course will run from 9am-4pm and is free to residents of the Hawkesbury LGA.

The course is being run in celebrations of the 11th Anniversary of World Environment Day. Non-residents also welcome - fee $30. A light lunch will be provided. For more information and to book, please call 4560 4525

Community Sponsorship Program 2011/2012

Round 1 of the program is currently open and applications will be received until the close of business, Friday 1 July 2011, for funding early in the new financial year.
The program covers any Hawkesbury based community organisation, business or individual wanting to undertake activities that address the needs of the community as identified in Council’s adopted strategic, community, cultural and other plans. It also covers individuals who are representing the Hawkesbury at a state, national and international sporting competition or cultural event.

Hawkesbury City Council will assess the applications and provide sponsorship to support activities or events which will benefit the residents of the Hawkesbury within the available resources.

The purpose of Council’s sponsorship program is to enable community groups and individuals to access resources that would otherwise be unavailable to them. These resources could include:

* Financial - in terms of direct funding
* Human - in terms of advice, skill and expertise of Council staff
* Material - in terms of goods and services provided directly by Council as an ‘in-kind’ contribution

Natalie Burton Memorial Award

Hawkesbury City Council is calling for nominations for the annual Natalie Burton Memorial Award on behalf of the Burton, Turner and Lawrance families.

One award will be presented to a student from a Secondary School within the Hawkesbury City Council area. This award is intended for a recipient who has faced a challenging circumstance, and through their application and determination, overcome this adversity to succeed. This circumstance could be a disability, illness, serious accident, loss of a family member or other situation.

Members of the community are invited to nominate a student for the 2011 Natalie Burton Memorial Award by completing a nomination form which can be obtained from Council offices at 366 George St, Windsor, by calling 4560 4430 or online . Nominations close on Friday, 10 June 2011.

Rex Stubbs Scholarship Launch and Memorial Garden Opening

Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor and Councillors of Hawkesbury City Council for the Dr Rex Stubbs OAM Memorial Annual Scholarship Launch and Memorial Gardens Opening to be held Friday, 3 June 2011 commencing 11am at the garden area in front of the Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street , Windsor.

Consulting the Community

Proposed Road closure of Francis Street at Smith Park between Windsor Street and Chapel Street, Richmond

Council at its meeting held on 25 November 2008, in relation to the Pughs Lagoon and Smith Park Plan of Management and Masterplan, resolved in part that:

“The Pughs Lagoon & Smith Park Draft Plan of Management and Master Plan be adopted, with the provision of further community consultation being undertaken in relation to the Francis Street road closure.”

The adopted Plan of Management and Master Plan for Pughs Lagoon and Smith Park can be viewed on Council’s website http://www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/community/parks-and-recreation/land-management-plans
