Constitutional Referendum Wards – Hawkesbury City Council 10 September 2016

Constitutional Referendum Wards

Hawkesbury City Council

10 September 2016

Hawkesbury City Council is currently an undivided area (no wards), with all 12 councillors being elected by all those from the Hawkesbury local government area who are eligible to vote.

Council has decided to ask the community, by way of a binding constitutional referendum, whether the Hawkesbury local government area should be divided into three wards, with each ward electing four councillors. The referendum question is as follows:

“Currently Hawkesbury City Council is an undivided council with no wards.

Do you agree to the Hawkesbury local government area being divided into three (3) wards, each ward electing four (4) Councillors?”

On election day, Saturday, 10 September 2016 as well as voting for councillors to represent you for the next four years, Hawkesbury electors will be required to vote either “Yes” or “No” to the above question. If the referendum vote results in a majority “Yes” vote, the division of the area into three wards would not take effect until the next Council election scheduled for September 2020.

Further information is available on Council’s Website.

Authorised by the Acting General Manager.
