Citizen of the Month for February 2008Hawkesbury City Council is proud to announce the recipient of the Hawkesbury Citizen of the Month award for February 2008 is Christine Tracy. Christine Tracy has been a volunteer with the United Hospital Auxiliary (UHA) for the past 6 years, giving dedicated support to the community through the Hawkesbury District Health Service (HDHS). She has also been a member of the Community Board of Advice (CBOA) for the past 5 years, an organisation that offers feedback on the health needs of the Hawkesbury community. Through her volunteer work and contributions to the CBOA, Christine realised that during busy periods, patients and family members were sometimes required to spend long periods of time in the emergency department waiting room. Christine saw an opportunity to use volunteers more effectively to help patients and family members during these stressful times, while also taking the pressure off nursing staff. "Christine Tracy is to be commended for her foresight in initiating such a valuable service to the Hawkesbury community", said Mr Peter Blanehand, Mrs Tracy's nominator. In conjunction with HDHS, the UHA and the CBOA, Christine's ideas helped to initiate a training program for selected volunteers to liaise with nursing staff in an attempt to provide a caring and compassionate service to waiting patients and their family members. The service commenced 2 - 3 days per week in May 2007, with the volunteers providing an integral link between patients and their families to emergency department staff.. This service has now expanded to a daily service. Christine's innovative contributions and dedication to the wellbeing of the Hawkesbury community makes her a deserving recipient for the February 2008 Citizen of the Month Award. To nominate a person for Citizen of the Month, you will need to fill in a Citizen of the Month nomination form available from Council, The Richmond Club, the local Richmond and Hawkesbury Central Libraries and on Council's website.
