Citizen of the Month for April 2008

Hawkesbury City Council is proud to announce the recipient of the Hawkesbury Citizen of the Month award for April 2008 is Jean Peare.

Jean Peare is one of those quiet but determined contributors that make up the backbone of our community.  She has contributed a huge service to the Hawkesbury Sister City Association and also a wide-range of other community organisations within the Hawkesbury.

According to our Council records Jean's involvement in community organisations can be traced back 43 years when she first joined the Hawkesbury City Netball Association. Her commitment to sport in the district was recognised in the award of an Order of Australia for her services to netball in 1998 and also the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.

She has also been a member of the Hawkesbury Sports Council since its inception, contributing to ensuring that sporting facilities within the district are managed in the most effective manner for the benefit of all users.

Jean has spent many hours serving on a succession of Council committees that have been responsible for awarding other deserving members of the community, currently the Hawkesbury Civic and Citizenship Committee. With such an in-depth knowledge of our local community and her various interests, Jean is always been able to provide positive input in to deliberations.

As well as all this Jean is a committed member of St Mathews Catholic Church and has raised a growing family.

Jean's commitment to the Hawkesbury Sister City Association of which she has been a member since 1984 and President for most of that time, has developed the Association of today which hardly resembles that of its humble beginnings.

Her commitment to the Hawkesbury Sister City Association has improved the life experiences of so many people both here in our community and those from our sister cities overseas.

Her dedication and hard work as part of the Sister City Association has provided opportunities for so many of our young residents to widen their horizons and become educated on cultures that are vastly different from their own. Even the extensive training that the Association provides before students embark on these trip equips them with skills that they can utilise throughout their future lives.

She has also assisted in carefully and patiently nurturing the friendships between Temple City , USA and Kyotamba, Japan.

Her dedication to the Hawkesbury community and her voluntary efforts and generosity are well deserving of the Citizen of the Month Award.

To nominate a person for Citizen of the Month, you will need to fill in a Citizen of the Month nomination form available from Council, The Richmond Club, the local Richmond and Hawkesbury Central Libraries and on Council's website.
