Fees & Charges

Some animals which arrive at the shelter may already be microchipped and/or registered.  The cost of purchasing an animal from the shelter can vary depending on requirements.

By law, before animals are released from the shelter, any animal:

  • over 6 months of age must be microchipped and lifetime registered
  • under 6 months of age must be microchipped only

Costs associated with purchasing can include:

Cats

Purchase of cat: $31.00

Microchip: $42.50

Lifetime Registration:

  • Desexed - $40.00
  • Desexed and owned by a pensioner - $15.00
  • Not desexed - $150.00
  • Breeder - $40.00

Surrender of cat: $16.00

Impounding fees: $55.00 the first day, then $35.00 per day

Dogs

Purchase: $36.50

Microchip: $42.50

Lifetime Registration:

  • Desexed - $40.00
  • Desexed and owned by a pensioner - $15.00
  • Not desexed - $150.00
  • Breeder - $40.00

Surrender: $32.00

Impounding fees: $71.00 for the first day, and then $35.50 per day

Any subsequent impounding: $99.00 for the first day, then $35.50 per day

Cat Trap Hire

$100.00 CASH deposit (refunded on return of trap) and $27.00 per fortnight hire fee. (HCC residents get 1st week hire free)
