Educational Resources Collection (ERC) HSC study guides and other relevant titles for a
range of subjects are available at both Windsor Central and Richmond Branch libraries. Check our catalogue for specific titles or use a keyword search for subjects e.g "legal studies".

INFOCUS is a collection of articles specially chosen for its relevance to HSC topics, texts and issues.

Hawkesbury Library holds over 100 articles from this collection and these may be browsed using the Advanced Search (choose subset All) option on our catalogue. Alternatively, the title of the article may be searched using a Title search on our catalogueafter looking on
the State Library's list.

LIAC collection from the Legal Information Access Centre - A collection of legal resource books useful for both legal studies students and the general public. This collection is available for use in the library with duplicates of some titles available for loan.
Local Studies collection for local history and family history.
Newspapers - A range of current and historical newspapers are available for use at the library. Please check our catalogue or enquire at the library.
Online access is also available to a variety of newspapers online via Newscan or the Sydney Morning Herald Archives. See our brochure Free databases & Online Resources.
Newzindex is a collection of Australian newspaper articles on the environment and social issues. These are available for use in the library. Articles are held for the current year plus 2 previous years.
ONLINE RESOURCES
Online databases: Our brochure Free databases & Online Resources provides details of resources available for use in the library or for access at home using your library card number.
A variety of extra electronic resources may be accessed from home via the State Library of NSW. To participate you must be a New South Wales resident and must also be registered as a State Library client. If you are not a registered client of the Library, you can apply online. You will need to allow up to 10 days to receive your Reader's Card before you can use these databases from home.
Del.icio.us: Hawkesbury's delicious taste_e_sources may be accessed online at any time. This is a selection of useful websites on a variety of subjects which is updated regularly with sites of interest.
Information Access:
A free reference service is provided at both Hawkesbury Central Library and Richmond Branch Library. Assistance in locating information and sources of information in various formats is given to any member of the public. Information is available from a variety of collections from within the library or by obtaining additional information from outside resources. - Search online databases
Public Access Computers:
Public access computers are available at Hawkesbury Central Library and at Richmond Branch Library. Computers are free for library members. Computers have internet access and word processing. Visitors can purchase a Visitors card for a small fee which allows them to use the computers for 1 month. You must have your card with you to use the computers.
Bookings
To maximise computer availability and to ensure fair access for all patrons, the following guidelines apply:
Bookings for the PCs are made in person at the Reservation station near the Information Desk or by phoning 4560-4460.
It is essential to have your library card with you when making a booking. Visitors must go to the Information Desk before making a booking to obtain a temporary Visitor's card.
Bookings are made for up to 1 hour with a daily limit of three (3) sessions per day per person.
If you leave your PC idle for more than 10 minutes your booking is automatically cancelled. Your booking is also cancelled if you have not arrived after 10 minutes
Patrons must vacate their workstation once their allotted time is finished.
Printing / Scanning
Printing from PCs is available.
Black & white (20c per A4 page) and colour ($1.60 per A4, $3.20 per A3) are available.
The printing process is card operated.
Scanning is also available. Follow the helpful instructions available in the Technology Room
Patrons are not permitted to use their own paper in the printers.
Patrons are responsible for planning time on the Internet, including printing.
Large print jobs should not be commenced at the end of the session.
Saving of documents
Patrons must not save documents onto the computer hard drive as ALL files are DELETED daily.
Patrons are must supply a memory stick or CD to save your material and encouraged to save regularly.
Library supplied CDs are available for sale from the Circulation Desk
Although all care is taken to ensure a virus-free computer for public use, Hawkesbury City Council Library will not be liable in the event of virus contamination of any material.
Access
Use of the library's public access computers is free to library members. When a user is under the age of 18 years, supervision or restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or carer. A parent must sign the consent form attached.
Visitors and non-members can pay a small fee to access a Visitors card which is valid for 1 month.
Use of non-library software is not permitted.
Hawkesbury City Council Library does not take any responsibility for technical problems or failures to access Internet sites, software or CD-ROM applications.
Delays with system breakdown are unavoidable.
Wireless access is available as a free service for library members. Complete the appropriate form and return to the library. There is a 24 hour turnaround time (weekdays) for this service, new memberships on weekends will be dealt with on weekdays. Wireless access is not available for visitors, but they are welcome to pay for a visitor's card to use the public PCs.
Audio / Music
If you wish to listen to audio on a PC you must supply your own headphones.

Hawkesbury Library Service provides free wireless access (compatible 802.11b/g devices) at Windsor Central Library and Richmond Branch Library. For information on connecting your laptop to the library wireless network please ask at the Information Desk for details or read the How to Connect leaflet.
Computer Use at the Library
Library patrons are bound by the Conditions of Use as agreed to when logging onto a PC. The Library reserves the right to cancel bookings, terminate sessions and suspend membership cards if conditions of use are violated. The Conditions of Use include:
Not viewing or displaying offensive material or images.
Not creating noise disturbances. This may include noise created by music, mobile phones or voices.
Abide by the limit of three (3) sessions per day per person.
Not using another person's card to enable bookings in excess of the limit.
Not eating or drinking in the computer room.
Disregard for the Conditions of Use may result in:
First instance - your session being terminated without warning.
Second offence - you will be banned for a period of up to 3 months from the library under Section 17 of the Library Regulation 2005.
Public conduct
Hawkesbury City Council Library Service reserves the right to refuse access to patrons who engage in unacceptable behaviour. The Library reserves the right to cancel bookings, terminate sessions and suspend membership cards if conditions of use are violated.Unacceptable behaviour includes: -
- Abuse of staff or other patrons
- Being noisy
- Swearing/bad language
- Destruction of or damage to library equipment or software.
- Licence infringement.
- Attempting to modify or gain access to files, password or data belonging to others.
- Unauthorised monitoring of electronic communications.
- Copyright infringement
- Content and censorship
Hawkesbury City Council Library Service is not responsible for restricting the content on the Internet or supervising Internet use. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)responds to community concerns about offensive and illegal material on the internet. They also enforces Australia's anti-spam laws and accepts complaints about unsolicited email messages.

Inter-Library Loans
Inter-Library Loans
Hawkesbury City Council Library Service participates in inter-library lending according to the Australian Interlibrary Resource Sharing Code . The Interlibrary Loans Service enables the library to provide information and recreational items not currently held in our libraries. The service compliments and supports Hawkesbury's collection as well as the collections of other libraries.
Borrowing from other libraries
Please refer to our leaflet "Interlibrary Loans: Information for Library Patrons" for details regarding our conditions for making an interlibrary loan request. Items from other public libraries may be borrowed free of charge. However, costs incurred through the borrowing of items from libraries other than public libraries will be passed onto the requestor. At present, the usual charge for this is $13.20.
The loan period for interlibrary loans is 2 weeks. If a renewal is required, a request should be made before the due date, and is at the discretion of the lending library.
Lending to other libraries
Hawkesbury City Council Library Service is willing to supply to other libraries from the lending collection. Items not for loan from Hawkesbury Library Services include items held less than 12 months, non-circulating items from the reference and local studies collections, and audio-visual materials. Where duplicate lending items relating to local studies are available, items will be lent to other libraries providing that the item is used only in the library.
