Community Languages Collection
Home Delivery Service
Selection and delivery of library materials to individuals living in their own homes in the local government area who are unable to visit the library due to infirmity, disability or prolonged illness.Trained volunteers provide this service.
Retirement Village
A library activity session at which retirement village residents can choose their own reading materials.
Nursing Home Service
A bulk loan of library materials for residents to read, and to support recreational programmes within the nursing home.
Senior Club Service
A library activity session at which club members can choose their own reading materials.
Community Languages Collection
Hawkesbury Library holds a range of community language materials, included are print and audio books in Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian and Maltese. This collection is shelved separately from the English language collection and contains adult fiction, junior fiction and picture books. The Library also accesses the Multicultural Service at the State Library of NSW. The Community Language Collection provides access to library materials in more that 40 languages other than English. To request books in a particular language, contact library staff.
Adult Literacy Collection
Hawkesbury City Council Library has an expanding collection of Adult Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) materials designed to help people learn the English language OR improve their command of English.
These materials help people to learn or improve various skills, such as:
- Pronunciation skills - kits help students learn the correct pronunciation of words, the sound, stress and rhythm of the language.
- Listening skills - kits to help improve the learners' listening skills and understanding of the spoken word.
- Reading skills - these materials help develop and/or improve reading skills.
- Writing skills - includes spelling, punctuation, grammar, letter writing, filling forms and taking messages.
