National Families Week is celebrated every year between 15 and 21 May and this year, it will be celebrated as National Families Week@HOME. While COVID-19 restrictions are being eased, physical distancing is still vitally important, so we are all being are encouraged to do home activities which can be shared through social media.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of the theme of National Families Week – Stronger Families,Stronger Communitiesand the role families play by working together to support each other and provide care for those in the broader community. It is a time for us to show kindness and to help to protect the health and wellbeing of our community members. The National Families Week Top Ten Tips provide some ideas – but please adhere to physical distancing and government imposed restrictions.

Resources available on the website can help you celebrate at home. Download some of the activity sheets, colouring-in pages etc. and post your efforts to on Council’s Facebook page and on the National Families Week Facebook page as well as Instagram by following nationalfamiliesweek and using #nationalfamiliesweek, #strongerfamilies, #strongercommunities.

What form will your celebration take - will it be a short video, a drawing, a poem, a family photo, a walk in the park to collect autumn leaves to trace, or some other innovative and creative idea?

You could also explore your local area with your family and post photos of the beauty to be found in the beautiful Hawkesbury during this beautiful autumn weather. I’d love to see how you are celebrating your family and community at home.
