Mayoral Column

This weekend begins our Australia Day celebrations. We kick off with our Citizenship Ceremony and Australia Day Awards on Friday evening, 25 January. What a wonderful way to welcome our new citizens and worthy award winners who will then able to wake up as Australia citizens on Australia Day and celebrate with us here in the Hawkesbury.

We will welcome 44 new citizens at our special Citizenship Ceremony from a range for countries including Turkey, Pakistan, Canada, Malta, Samoa, South Africa, Iraq, Philippines, Ukraine, Ireland and the United Kingdom. All family, friends and community members are welcome with the Ceremony starting at 5.30pm at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Windsor. RSVP events@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au or call 4560 4404.

We will be holding BBQ dinner in the Deerubbin Centre Courtyard which will be followed by our Australia Day Awards Ceremony at 7.30pm. I’m delighted to welcome our Australia Day Ambassador, author and motivational speaker Cheryl Koenig OAM.

On Australia Day, Saturday 26 January Council will also host ‘Australia Day on the Hawkesbury’ from 4pm to 9pm at Governor Phillip Park, a free family fun and fireworks event, proudly sponsored by Windsor RSL, Hawkesbury Race Club, Richmond Club, Hillbilly Cider and Prismatic Events. The event will include live entertainment by local artists and the ‘Lets Groove Tonight’ band, waterslides and carnival rides, food and drink stalls, food trucks, free face painting, children’s activities and games, roving entertainment, the RAAF Striker Fire Truck on site for public access 6pm to 8pm and fireworks at 9pm.
