Mayoral Column

In the Hawkesbury we pride ourselves on our sense of community and being friendly, so why not get to know your neighbours better this Sunday, 31 March on Neighbour Day? It’s a great way to celebrate our community. Organise a get together in the street or just have a cuppa.

Knowing someone next door, down the street or on the next property offers many benefits. It offers reassurance there is someone nearby to quickly turn to for help during an emergency or to just collect the mail when you’re away. It is the chance for friendship too.

National Neighbour Day is about strengthening communities and building better relationships; creating safer, healthier and more vibrant suburbs and towns; promoting tolerance and respect; breaking down community barriers; and protecting the elderly, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged.

Our neighbours are an important connection to the place we call home – and what better place to call home than the Hawkesbury. Let’s keep the Hawkesbury a friendly place where we all have a neighbour who’s there in time of need – let’s be that neighbour ourselves. I’ll be saying hello to my neighbours and offering help when they need it, and I hope you do too.

We all have an important role to play in the community, let’s get involved and celebrate it. Get more info and your free Neighbour Day kit at www.neighbourday.org
