Council’s annual Hawkesbury Household Chemical CleanOut Event will be held on Sunday, 28 July from 9am to 3:30pm at Hawkesbury Showground, 1 Racecourse Road, Clarendon (enter via Gate 1).

Chemical CleanOut is a free service offered to Hawkesbury residents for the safe disposal of a range of common household chemicals which could cause harm to our health and the environment if not disposed of correctly.

I encourage our local residents to use this free service to correctly dispose of household quantities (20kg or 20L maximum) of paint and paint related products, herbicides, pesticides, poisons, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, pool chemicals, hobby chemicals, acids and alkalis, solvents, household cleaners, motor oils, fuels, fluids, batteries, and fluorescent globes and tubes. By participating in this great program, not only will you help protect the environment but you will also make your home safer from unwanted chemical substances.

Liquid can leak during transport so make sure you wrap containers holding liquids securely and then in plastic buckets or trays and keep them away from passengers (in the boot). Always handle and transport chemicals carefully and never mix chemicals as this may produce dangerous reactions. Wherever possible keep all chemicals in their original containers and ensure containers are clearly labelled and well-sealed. If you do not know the contents, label the container ‘unknown chemical’. For information on storage and transporting chemicals to the event, visit www.cleanout.com.au, phone 131 555.
