Council Meeting Update

The NSW Government proposes to increase the Emergency Service Levy for Council.

At last night's Council meeting the NSW State Government's intention to increase the Emergency Service Levy from 1 July 2019 was discussed.

Council currently pay $871,303 in an Emergency Service Levy to the NSW Government.

The NSW Government have now advised that they will be increasing the levy 22% or $192,969 to $1,064,272 in 2019/2020.

This proposal was first brought to Council's attention on Monday 7 May without any prior discussion or consultation. This increase to the Emergency Service Levy would have a significant financial implication on Council's 2019/2020 budget. The Draft Budget is balanced and is currently on public exhibition. To make such a drastic change at this late stage will be a real challenge.

This will be a significant challenge for Council and we will be hoping to meet with the Premier to discuss the issue as soon as possible.
