Council’s annual smoking ceremony

Council will engage a member of the local Darug community, determined by their Elders, to undertake a Smoking Ceremony at the beginning of Council’s first meeting for 2019 on Tuesday, 12 February.

A smoking ceremony is one of the most significant ancient ceremonies performed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The ceremony involves smouldering various native plants to produce smoke which are believed to have cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits.

The smoking ceremony will commence at 6:15pm on the front lawn near the flag poles outside the Council Administration Building, 366 George Street, Windsor.

The Council Meeting will then commence in Council Chambers at 6:30pm.

All members of the public are welcome to attend.
