Community Meeting – Operation of the Lower Portland Ferry

The Hills Shire Council and Hawkesbury City Council are investigating the ongoing operation of the Lower Portland ferry service.

Currently The Hills and Hawkesbury Councils operate the ferry at Lower Portland with the cost of operation and maintenance of the ferry shared between the two Councils.

A survey of users in May 2018 found that there were approximately 500 individual trips made each week.

The cost of maintaining the service is currently just over $1 million a year and is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.

While the cost is shared between the two Councils, the operation of ferry services across NSW is generally a State Government function.

The Hills and Hawkesbury Councils are holding a community meeting to discuss the ongoing operation of the ferry and community members are invited to attend:
