Hawkesbury’s Second Hand Saturday is on again!

Hawkesbury City Council will hold this year’s Second Hand Saturday on 16 November 2019 as part of National Recycling Week.

Second Hand Saturday is a community event which allows residents to register a garage sale and have it promoted by Council. It also means buyers can download the garage sale list and map from Council’s website and go on the hunt for some hidden treasure.

According to the Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Barry Calvert, the event is a chance for the Hawkesbury community to sell their unwanted items and prevent them from ending up in landfill.

“I hope to see as many of our community members as possible join in this super saving event,” the Mayor said.

“Not only will it save waste going to our landfill but it will save people money by finding treasures at bargain prices.”

The event will help to raise awareness around reuse and waste, while providing the opportunity for residents to engage with their community.

“It’s a great way to connect with your neighbours, fellow residents, community groups, local schools and sporting clubs,” Mayor Calvert added.

“This is will be a small-scale local economy event, and I encourage schools, sporting clubs and community groups to get involved to use it as a great fundraising opportunity.”

Council has created an online platform to allow the Hawkesbury community to register their garage sale.

Council will provide free promotion for Second Hand Saturday on Council’s website as well as promote the event via print, electronic and social media using funding from the NSW Environment Protection Authority.

Buyers will be able to view all garage sales registered in the Hawkesbury for Second Hand Saturday. Buyers will also be able to download a list of the sales and a map showing garage sale locations.
