Hawkesbury Regional Gallery is looking for YOUR A Country Practice memorabilia

Hawkesbury Regional Gallery is curating an exhibition on the iconic TV Show A Country Practice which was filmed in the Hawkesbury. The Gallery is now inviting the community to bring in any memorabilia they may have collected over the years to contribute to the exhibition.

A Country PracticeFrom 1981 to 1993, A Country Practice was one of Australia’s most popular TV Shows. The series followed the workings of a small hospital in the fictional New South Wales rural country town of Wandin Valley as well as its connected medical clinic, the town's veterinary surgery, RSL club/pub and local police station.

The Hawkesbury has a particular connection to the show, in that most of the outdoor filming took place at locations in the towns of the Hawkesbury. You can take a walk around Ebenezer and Pitt town and see Dr Elliot’s surgery, Frank and Shirl’s house, the Wandin Valley church and hospital, and Muldoon’s Store. Many farms and properties were also used for location shoots.

From 13 December to 2 February, Hawkesbury Regional Gallery will hold an exhibition on A Country Practice to celebrate and reflect on this show which was such an important part of Australian’s lives for so long. The exhibition asks visitors to remember, enjoy and reflect. As well as archival film and production and memorabilia objects, the Gallery will be including contemporary art works that respond to, celebrate, explore and reflect on the TV show.

The Gallery invites the community to be involved with the exhibition by loaning objects they have collected over the years directly from the filming or as memorabilia. They are looking for props and costumes used on the show, photos and fan cards (especially ones signed by the cast), newspaper and magazine articles, posters and any other objects associated with the show. They are also interested in hearing your stories about interacting with the cast and crew of the show when they were filming in the area.

If you would like to contribute to the exhibition, please contact Kath von Witt on (02) 4560 4440 or email kathleen.vonwitt@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au before Friday, 25 October 2019.
