“We are honoured to have Peter Frazer join us for Australia Day,” Mayor Calvert said.

In 2012, Peter Frazer's 23-year-old daughter Sarah was tragically killed in an avoidable accident on the Hume Highway in NSW, while her broken-down car was loaded onto a tow truck. Peter’s life is now devoted to advocating for those who are vulnerable on our roads and highways.

In March 2012, he founded SARAH (Safer Australian Roads and Highways). He has since created numerous initiatives, including the highly successful Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week, now in its seventh year, which has support at every level of government.

Peter’s awards include finalist in News Limited’s Pride of Australia Award – Courage (2012), Blue Mountains Citizen of the Year (2013), UWS Community Service Leadership (2014), and Third Sector’s Volunteer of the Year (2019).

He is a keynote road-safety speaker, a Traffic Offenders Program presenter, a Rural Fire Service volunteer, a volunteer Board Member for International Road Victims Partnership, and World Day of Remembrance Adviser (Oceania) for Fédération Européenne des Victimes de la Route.

The Australia Day Ambassador Program sends high achieving Australians to community celebrations nationwide every Australia Day. Ambassadors are sportspeople, scientists, businesspeople, actors and community workers who provide added inspiration and pride to Australia Day events and activities. The Australia Day Ambassador Program is coordinated by the Australia Day Councils and Committees in each state and territory.
