Australia Day Award Nominations 2012
The 2012 Hawkesbury Australia Day Award nominations are open for the community to nominate individuals that are worthy of such a prestigious award.
The Awards, based on a process of nomination and selection by the Civic and Citizenship Committee, recognise achievements in the Hawkesbury in the following categories:
– Cultural Heritage Award – for significant contribution to cultural heritage development
– Community Arts Award – for significant contribution to cultural art development
– Sports Person of the Year – for outstanding achievement in the sporting domain
– Commemorative Plaque – for significant contribution of a resident (posthumous 5 years)
You can nominate for a Hawkesbury Australia Day Award for 2012 by completing a nomination form which can be found on online at www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au, obtained from Council's Administration Building, Hawkesbury Central Library, Windsor and Richmond Branch Library or by calling Council's Public Relations Coordinator on 4560 4430.

Hawkesbury Chemcial CleanOut a Success
Hawkesbury residents participated in The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage's Chemical CleanOut on Sunday, 21 August 2011 held at the Hawkesbury City Waste Management Facility.
250 residents surrendered 15.9 tonnes of unwanted chemicals from their houses for disposal. 68% of the residents who attended the Chemical Cleanout were first time users and large amounts of paint were deposited. In fact, 58% of all chemicals received on the day was oil, water or metal based paint.
Other chemical items collected on the day included oil (14%) and other liquids (10%), 162 fire extinguishers, 1,538 propane gas cylinders and 924 lead acid batteries.
The Chemical CleanOut is held annually in the Hawkesbury and is a free service allowing residents to dispose of household quantities of chemicals. For more information and to keep an eye on when next year's CleanOut will be visit, www.cleanout.com.au or phone 131 555.
National Recycling Week in the Hawkesbury 7 — 13 November 2011
National Recycling Week is in its 16th year and Hawkesbury City Council is offering the FREE activities to celebrate the important week.
Monday, 7 November, 6pm-8pm at Stan Stevens Room, Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street, Windsor.
VISY Material Recycling Facility Educational Centre Visit
Wednesday, 9 November, 9am-12.30pm. Attendees to meet at Council's Administration Building, 366 George Street at 9am.
Saturday, 12 November, 10am-12pm at Hawkesbury Regional Museum, 8 Baker Street, Windsor.

Hawkesbury City Council Notice -- Temporary Ferry Closure
Due to a major overhaul, the Lower Portland Ferry will be out of service for approximately 10 weeks commencing from Monday, 17 October 2011.
Subject to availability a replacement Ferry will be provided. This replacement service will not be available during the first week of activity due to change over requirements.

Suspension of Alcohol Free Zone and Restricted Alcohol Zone - JR 0554
In accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1993, Council resolved the following on 13 September 2011:
The Alcohol Free Zone within a designated area of the "Windsor Mall" (George Street,Windsor) between Fitzgerald Street and Kable Street; and the Restricted Alcohol Zone within Thompson Square Park, be suspended for the purpose of holding the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival – Windsor 2011 during the following dates and times:
– Friday, 28 October 2011 – 7:00 pm – 12 midnight
– Saturday, 29 October 2011 – 1:00 pm – 12 midnight
– Sunday, 30 October 2011 – 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm
