Puppy Dog Tales

Puppy-Dog Tales Reading Program

This reading program, for primary school children, aims to improve early literacy skills and encourage reluctant readers, while they have fun reading to a dog.

The accepting, loving nature of a dog helps a child to relax, open up and proceed at their own pace. In this non-judgmental environment, the children's focus improves, their literacy skills increase and their confidence soars.

Reading sessions take place in a quiet area of the library. Each child has a one-on-one session with a specially trained dog (and the trainer) that runs for approximately 10 minutes. The participant can bring a favourite story or select a book from the library’s collection.

This free activity is held at Hawkesbury Central Library, Windsor from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Thursdays (during school terms). Bookings are essential via Eventbrite link or phone (02) 4560 4460
