Flood update 4 July 2022
4 July 2022
As the flood waters continue to impact the region, Hawkesbury City Council is reminding residents to stay safe, avoid unnecessary travel and to stay well away from flood waters.
Council's Customer Service Call Centre is operational on 4560 4444.
These facilities are now temporarily closed: Council Administration Building, Visitor Information Centre, Waste Management Facility, Hawkesbury Central Library, Richmond Branch Library, Hawkesbury Regional Museum, Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Richmond Swimming Centre, Hawkesbury Community Nursery, Companion Animal Shelter (animals have been evacuated) and Hawkesbury Oasis Fitness and Aquatic Centre.
Council crews have been on the ground managing road closures, responding to water and sewer interruptions and supporting emergency services, as severe weather, flooding and flash flooding impacts the region.
NSW State Emergency Service crews have responded to hundreds of requests for assistance across the Hawkesbury since the beginning of the event and are inspecting known hotspots and undertaking welfare checks with affected properties. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is already assisting. Residents requiring flood assistance or support can contact NSW SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).
The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Patrick Conolly thanks the SES, ADF and all emergency services support and Council crews for their ongoing efforts to support the safety of our community.
“Hawkesbury City Council is working in partnership with the emergency services, State and Federal government agencies, charities and others to deliver assistance,” Mayor Conolly said.
“Evacuation Orders have been issued for many areas, please take these orders seriously. Evacuate safely so that you don’t endanger yourselves, your family or our emergency services personnel.
“I’d also like to remind everyone to avoid driving or walking in or near floodwaters – remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.
“Residents should also avoid any other recreational contact with the waterways now and over the coming days, even after the significant rainfall subsides,” he said.
