Interested in history? See what’s on in April!

27 March 2024

Library - April history - Bligh girl webIf you are interested in learning more about history, then Hawkesbury Library Service has some special events for you in April, with a free author talk and a history session about local photography.

Let’s talk about Mary – Governor Bligh’s Daughter

On Wednesday, 10 April, from 10am to 11:15am, author Sue Williams will share the enthralling story of Governor Bligh's daughter, a strong-minded and independent woman who lived in 19th Century Sydney. Mary Bligh arrived in the colonies with her obstinate father, the newly appointed Governor of NSW.

While Bligh was failing to impress various inhabitants of the colony, his daughter was busy scandalising them with her risqué clothing that had pantaloons underneath. It was the latest London fashion at the time but shocking to Australian colonists!

Everyone is welcome to attend the free author talk at Hawkesbury Central Library, 300 George Street, Windsor. Bookings are only required via Eventbrite https://hawkesburylibrary.eventbrite.com if you cannot attend in person and prefer to join online via Zoom.
