CONSULTING THE COMMUNITY

Community Input Sought on Heritage Interpretation Plan for Upper Colo Original Timber Bridge

Hawkesbury City Council is seeking the community’s input on Heritage Interpretation Plan signs and devices proposed for the original timber bridge at Upper Colo. Images and information is now available for public input at www.yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au/upper-colo-bridge-heritage-interpretation-plan

The Upper Colo Bridge located across the Colo River at Colo Heights Road, Upper Colo experienced extensive damage as a result of the 2021 floods. The existing timber bridge is being replaced with a new concrete bridge.

As part of the approvals process Council undertook a series of assessments to ensure aspects such as the historical nature of the site and any environmental matters were assessed. One of the outcomes of the assessments was the development of a Heritage Interpretation Plan.

The Heritage Interpretation Plan has been formulated to recognise the importance of the original timber bridge. This involves salvaging the remaining timbers to be repurposed as part of the landscape.

A copy of the Heritage Interpretation Plan will be available for viewing and discussion on Thursday, 16 June 2022 from 9:30am to 2:30pm at the Colo Heights Community Hub, 2996 Putty Road Colo Heights.

As well as a public feedback being made via Council’s community engagement website on the link above, Community members may alternatively make submissions in writing addressed to the General Manager, by mail to Hawkesbury City Council, PO Box 146 Windsor NSW 2756, or by email to council@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au up to close of business on Friday, 15 July 2022.
