Hawkesbury City Council is inviting community members to view and comment on Council’s Draft Hawkesbury Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2023-2026, which is now on public exhibition at yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au until Tuesday, 20 February.

A copy of the Draft Plan can also be viewed at:

  • Council’s Administration Building, 366 George Street, Windsor, Monday to Friday during opening hours 9am to 4pm
  • Richmond Branch Library, 29 West Market Street, Richmond, Monday to Friday 9:30am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm
  • Hawkesbury Central Library, 300 George Street, Windsor, Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm and Sunday 2pm to 5pm.

Council recognises that access and inclusion are fundamental to building a safe, connected, and cohesive Hawkesbury. The Draft Hawkesbury Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2023-2026 provides Council with a clear set of actions and strategies to be undertaken over the next three years to improve inclusion for the community. Council wants to hear from the Hawkesbury community about local challenges and opportunities for improving access and inclusion for those with disability.

The DIAP is informed and guided by the local community with the lived experience of disability and is being developed in accordance with the New South Wales Government strategy to improve the lives of people with disability.

The plan aims to capture a holistic view of the barriers to inclusion in the Hawkesbury, and will focus on several key areas including:

  • improving community attitudes and behaviours toward those with disability
  • improving systems and processes to be more accessible and inclusive
  • increasing employment opportunities and improving support for those with disability seeking and engaging in employment
  • building more liveable communities.

Council will receive submissions online at yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au or in writing, addressed to the General Manager, by mail to Hawkesbury City Council, PO Box 146 Windsor NSW 2756, or by email to council@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au with reference to the Draft Disability Action Plan or by calling Council on 4560 4444 up to close of business on Tuesday, 20 February.
