Thanks for seeing us at the 2024 Hawkesbury Show – our best ever!

More than 17,000 people came to see the displays at the Hawkesbury City Council tent at the 2024 Hawkesbury Show, watch nature shows, receive a free plant, and find out about Council’s latest projects.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury Sarah McMahon said a record number of people visited Council’s tent over the three-day event.

Council’s exhibit also won Second Prize for Best Public Service Exhibit. At the Council tent:

• 450 people pledged to be river safe
• 300 people provided feedback on how they want Council to communicate with them
• 900 native plants were given away by Hawkesbury Community Nursery

More than 3,000 people learned about and provided feedback on current projects on exhibition including the Cultural Plan, the multimillion-dollar Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant projects and Council’s Community Strategic Plan. “Thank you everyone who met us at the Show and saw our wonderful displays and enjoyed our activities,” Mayor McMahon said.

“Everyone had a great time learning about bugs and frogs and spiders with the fun workshops with Tom from Hooked by Nature. Visitors to the Council tent had the chance to pat a cockroach and see frogs and spiders. The nature workshops included learning how Habitat is important for native fauna.

“We’re so glad that visitors to our Show tent, both local and beyond the Hawkesbury, come back to see us each year to find out the good work we are doing, to do the fun Passport activity and to meet us.

“We are proud to sponsor this major event in the Hawkesbury.”

The Hawkesbury Show Passport activity saw more than 1,500 passports given out, with children and their families going on a special mission to meet all the Emergency Services personnel – Richmond RAAF, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Police Force, Fire and Rescue, St John Ambulance and Peppercorn Services Inc. at their displays to win a prize. Council also participated in the Grand Parade, with Paulie the garbage truck driver proudly driving the Council Garbage truck as part of the big procession.

Visitor Information Centre staff told everyone about Bilpin’s Apple Pie Trail and volunteers promoted the great things happening at the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Hawkesbury Regional Museum and Hawkesbury Library Service. The Community Services team was on hand talking about flood recovery and community support.

Council also launched its first ever Bin Bunch colouring in competition during the Hawkesbury Show. The competition is to introduce its new characters Captain Recycle, General Waste and Gardener Green.

The competition is open to students up to Year 6, in five categories – Preschool, Kindy, Year 1 to Year 2, Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6. The winner in each category will win a Lego Duplo, Friends, City or Technic recycling/garbage truck.

Entries must be placed in the entry boxes at Hawkesbury Central Library, Richmond Branch Library or Council’s Administration Building, or post it to Bin Bunch Colouring Competition, Hawkesbury City Council, PO Box 146,Windsor NSW 2756. Entries close Friday, 24 May 2024.
