Toured across regional locations following exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Archibald Prize is Australia’s foremost portraiture prize, with the winning artist receiving the prestigious accolade as well as $100,000 in prize money. It is a rare opportunity to be chosen as part of the regional tour so don’t miss out!

Awarded to the best portrait ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in arts, letters, science or politics, painted by any artist resident in Australasia’, the Archibald Prize is a who’s who of Australian culture, from politicians and celebrities to sporting heroes and artists. With artist participation growing year on year, an incredible 949 entries were received with 57 finalists selected for 2023. For the first time ever, there are more works by women (30) than men (27) selected as finalists with significant representation of First Nations artists.

It is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the regional tour – the last time it was exhibited in the Hawkesbury was in 2017. Don’t miss out on seeing this extraordinary display of 57 portraits, featuring public figures and cultural identities from all walks of life, reflecting the stories of our times. It is a great opportunity for Hawkesbury residents to see the exhibition and for anyone who missed it in Sydney. School visits will also be welcome by booking with the Gallery.

The Hawkesbury Young Archie portrait competition will also run in 2024 which will be a fantastic exhibition of young creative talent.
