Discounted desexing for cats and dogs in the Hawkesbury

Following on from Council’s successful free microchipping days for all Hawkesbury residents, now Hawkesbury pensioner concession and government health concession card holders have the chance to book in for discounted desexing courtesy of Hawkesbury City Council.

Dog desexing will be only $99 and cat desexing $49. Owners will be able to receive two vouchers! Free microchipping will also be offered as part of the program.

Call the Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter on 4560 4644 to request a voucher. Residents must be over 18 and will need to show proof of address and proof of pension concession/government issued health concession cards, as well as pet ownership.

Limited vouchers are available; residents are encouraged to contact the Shelter as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Sarah McMahon said the discounted desexing program aims to help people who may not be able to afford to have their cat or dog desexed at the usual prices.

“Just like microchipping, responsible pet ownership also means desexing your cat or dog and that’s why Council is offering a discounted desexing program,” Mayor McMahon said.

“Desexing will not only reduce the number of strays coming to our Shelter but very importantly, help to reduce the number of feral cats and stray dogs in that are killing fauna such as mammals, birds, reptiles, and frogs, and disrupting the natural breeding of our native animals.

“It also means a healthier pet, and less wandering – reducing the number of lost pets. We all want the best for our pets, our community, and our environment.
