Leading the way in holding sustainable events
2 July 2025
Council has strengthened its approach to sustainability in holding events in our City with the release of its Draft Sustainable Events Management Policy for public exhibition.
The draft policy, which is a review of its previous policy first published in 2011, is on public exhibition from today until Friday, 1 August 2025. Once adopted, this policy will provide a framework for both Council and local events organisers which receive Council sponsorship to apply best-practice sustainability actions into the planning and running of events.
These actions include, but are not limited to: waste management and minimisation, responsible energy and water use, mitigation of impacts on the environment and nearby wildlife and residents, accessibility and social and cultural inclusion.
The policy will be accompanied by the Sustainable Events Guidelines and a Sustainability Self-Assessment, which will be shared with all event organisers during Council’s event sponsorship process. Conformance will be a key part of the evaluation process for receiving Council sponsorship.
The Draft Sustainable Events Management Policy and other supporting documentation can be viewed during the exhibition period on Council’s online community engagement site www.yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au, or between 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday at Council’s Administration Office, 366 George Street, Windsor.
