Residents welcomed as Australian citizens

33 Hawkesbury residents are now Australian Citizens after attending Hawkesbury City Council’s Australian Citizenship Ceremony at Hawkesbury Regional Galley in Windsor this week.

Council hosts citizenship ceremonies for local residents who have applied to become Australian citizens through the Department of Home Affairs.

The Deputy Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett officiated at the citizenship ceremony, which was also attended by the Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, Councillor Emma-Jane Garrow, Councillor Amanda Kotlash, Councillor Sarah Richards (representing the State Member for Hawkesbury Ms Robyn Preston) and Councillor Danielle Wheeler.

“Becoming an Australian citizen is a very special occasion in a person’s life,’’ Deputy Mayor Lyons-Buckett said.

“It means you are now able to enjoy the opportunities and benefits of being an Australian citizen, congratulations,” she said.

“It is a great honour to confer Australian citizenship to people who appreciate and respect our values and who want to make Australia their home.”

The residents who became Australian citizens were born in a wide range of countries including the Philippines, Vietnam, China, South Africa, Northern Ireland, Sweden, South Korea, Scotland, the United Kingdom, Ghana, Fiji, North Macedonia, Ireland, New Zealand and Denmark.
