Community drop in at Yarramundi Reserve and Navua Reserve

Hawkesbury City Council is preparing a Plan of Management for Yarramundi Reserve and Navua Reserve, located at the junction of the Grose and Hawkesbury-Nepean Rivers. The plan will guide future use, management and long-term recreational opportunities for the reserves.

Members of the community are invited to drop-in to Yarramundi Reserve or Navua Reserve on Saturday, 6 March to meet Council staff and the consultant team developing the Plan of Management.

As part of its community consultation, Council recently invited community members to complete questionnaires about the Plan of Management for Yarramundi Reserve and the Navua Reserve. Preliminary results from the recent community surveys and a site analysis will be available at the community drop ins. Council staff and the consultant team will also be seeking feedback on potential solutions to the issues raised.

Community drop ins:

• Yarramundi Reserve, Saturday, 6 March, 10am-midday at the picnic area

Springwood Road, Yarramundi, northern side

• Navua Reserve, Saturday, 6 March, 1pm-2pm, 271 Grose River Road, Grose Wold.

Preliminary results showed that survey respondents think that both reserves are beautiful, natural, quiet and safe recreation areas and ‘beaches’ for the local and wider community to swim, picnic, walk, canoe/kayak, fish, and to take their dogs and horses to exercise and swim. 258 submissions were received for Yarramundi Reserve and 163 submissions for Navua Reserve.

The top issues and suggestions for both reserves include:

• increased, better parking
• more bins, empty bins more often
• more picnic and barbecue facilities, shelters
• clean up fallen trees and other flood debris
• increased and improved paths and walking tracks
• weed management.

For Yarramundi Reserve, respondents also frequently raised the need to improve carpark entries, fix potholes, provide parking spaces for horse floats and trailers, more/better toilets, and better ways to share the space between people, dogs and horses.

Respondents who use Navua Reserve also frequently suggested a play space for children, a shower/tap to rinse off sand, planting and revegetation.
