Giving our community updates about upcoming projects

Hawkesbury City Council is leading several community projects to improve the liveability of the Hawkesbury for the community during 2021/2022. With so many exciting projects scheduled to commence in the Hawkesbury, Council is commencing wide ranging communication updates to the keep community members informed about the steps underway for projects, community consultation arising and progress.

The projects will be funded via a combination of grants, Commonwealth and State Government funding, including recovery funding, and Council funding.

All communication will be guided by Council’s Communication and Engagement Strategy which seeks to build on the work which has been done to communicate and engage with the community. Council is also planning a series of 2021 town meetings during July in Glossodia, Pitt Town, North Richmond, Bilpin, Colo Heights and St Albans to engage with community members who are passionate and concerned about local issues.

Community Projects

Various works will soon commence as part of Bushfire Recovery from the Commonwealth and NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.

  • Bilpin – Bilpin Hall Precinct, Bilpin Hall Fire Resistance, Bilpin Oval
  • MacDonald Valley (St Albans) – St Albans town centre, St Albans School of Arts, Rural Fire Service Fire Resistance
  • Colo Heights –Colo Heights Hall Precinct, Colo Heights Hall Fire Resistance

Flood recovery works

The flood destruction of Upper Colo Bridge and the flood damage to Greens Road, Lower Portland has affected our residents greatly and Hawkesbury City Council is committed to replacing this important infrastructure.

  • Greens Road, Lower Portland – geotechnical surveys for planned road reconstruction
  • Upper Colo Bridge – new design for new replacement bridge

Liveability

As part of the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, Hawkesbury City Council engaged Place Design Group to deliver the detailed design for revitalising the town centres of Richmond, South Windsor and Windsor. This project is supported by the Western Parkland City Liveability Program and funded by all three levels of government via the Western Sydney City Deal.

  • Richmond Town Centre will receive tree planting, street upgrades, parklets and crossing upgrades as well as park furniture and open space improvements and an informal path to Richmond Post Office Site.
  • South Windsor Town Centre will include realigned parking compliant accessible spaces in Mullinger Lane, pedestrian crossings introduced and upgraded, lighting, water sensitive urban design (WSUD) garden beds, tree planting, footpath upgrades (paving and furniture) and crossing upgrades.
  • Windsor Town Centre will consist of enhanced paving, street furniture which is sensitive to heritage and the existing character, planting and pedestrian crossing upgrades.  In Windsor Mall, the creation of a space for activation and events which will increase pedestrian activity, new upgraded paving, furniture upgrades, outdoor dining areas and planting.

Capital Works

A range of Capital Works projects are planned for Pitt Town with community consultation that has occurred and further community consultation underway.

  • Road improvements in Pitt Town
  • Building public toilets at Bona Vista Park at Pitt Town
  • A new regional park at Fernadell Park, Pitt Town (Draft documents now on public exhibition on yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au until 8 July)
  • Pitt Town Public Domain Improvements Priority projects – community can vote on preferred projects on yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au up until Friday, 11 June 2021
