Australia Day on the Hawkesbury and Light Up Windsor success
1 February 2022
Families gathered at Governor Phillip Park, Windsor on 26 January 2022 in celebration of Australia Day when Hawkesbury City Council proudly hosted Australia Day on the Hawkesbury.
Around 3,500 people came along to enjoy a relaxing evening picnic by the shores of the Hawkesbury River. The revised format, from 7pm to 9pm, included light entertainment, and a small selection of food trucks.
RAAF Base Richmond – The Royal Australian Air Force – put on a patriotic display with a flyover by a C130 Hercules from 37 Squadron during the event.
Cheers could be heard around Windsor when the colourful fireworks display over the Hawkesbury River brought the summer evening to its finale.
Australia Day on the Hawkesbury has been assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council by receiving a $11,000 grant to support the event.
Council also received funding support for the popular Light Up Windsor Street Festival that was held on 22 December 2021. Funding included $60,500 from the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grant (administered by Austrade) and $22,000 from Destination Sydney Surrounds North for Light Up Windsor.
With more than 10,000 visitors enjoying festive music and entertainment, 50 plus market stalls, free face painting, Christmas lights and projections, the 2021 Light Up Windsor Street Festival was a Christmas delight after a challenging year.
Local shops and restaurants stayed open late for last minute Christmas shopping, giving a major boost to our local economy. Beautiful light projections at the Deerubbin Centre and the Old Hawkesbury Hospital also created a vibrant evening show every night in the week leading up to Christmas.
Light Up Windsor was proudly presented by Hawkesbury City Council in conjunction with the Windsor Business Group, with sponsorship from Windsor RSL.
