Resilient Hawkesbury 2030
3 April 2023
Hawkesbury City Council is developing its first Resilience Plan. Called Resilient Hawkesbury 2030, the Plan will set a vision and identify actions for creating a more resilient community that is connected and prepared for emergencies and other challenges.
You are invited to attend a pop-up consultation or a community workshop to share your ideas about resilience and tell us how the Hawkesbury can become a community that is more connected and better prepared for emergencies and change.
The community workshop will be held on Thursday, 20 April from 6pm to 7:30pm at Windsor RSL, 36 Argyle Street, South Windsor. Please register via hubs@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au or call 4560 4444 and ask for Donna Keogh.
Face to face pop-up consultations will be held on:
- Tuesday, 11 April 2023 from 10am to 1pm at St Albans Park, St Albans
- Saturday, 22 April 2023 from 10am to midday at Richmond Marketplace Shopping Centre, 78 March Street, Richmond
- Saturday, 22 April 2023 from 2pm to 4pm at Windsor Riverview Shopping Centre, 227 George Street, Windsor.
Developing a Resilience Plan is important for the Hawkesbury because resilient communities can prepare for and adapt to shocks and stressors. ‘Resilience’ is defined as the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses and systems to survive, adapt and grow no matter what kinds of stressors and shocks they experience.
Chronic stressors are ongoing and can be felt on a day-to-day basis, such as inequality, impact of climate change, lack of social cohesion, or inadequate public transport. Acute shocks are sudden, sharp events that threaten an area such as flood, heatwave and bushfire.
Over the last few years, the Hawkesbury community has experienced stressors and shocks including heatwaves, floods, storms, bushfires and a global health pandemic. It is more important than ever that the Hawkesbury and its community is prepared for emergencies and future long-term challenges.
This is a Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund Project through the joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
