Love and libraries – a match made in heaven. On Tuesday, 14 February, public libraries all over Australia will be feeling the love, as Library Lovers’ Day is celebrated. Valentine’s Day has been around for centuries however it is also now an annual celebration for people to celebrate the valuable role that libraries play in their lives.

Hawkesbury Library Service will celebrate Library Lovers' Day on 14 February and staff are encouraging the community to visit either public library at Windsor or Richmond on this day. Library staff have chosen their favourite book titles to go on display and there will also be free chocolate hearts.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Sarah McMahon believes that the Hawkesbury Library Service enriches her life.

“Libraries are an essential part of every community; they provide a hub for gathering, a central location to gain knowledge and a quiet space to escape to another world through the pages of a good book,” Mayor McMahon said.

“For me, Hawkesbury Central Library has a special place in my heart, having spent much time there as a child during the 1990s. My school just happened to be across the road, so on many afternoons my sisters and I would walk across to find books for our latest class projects.

“Many school kids from across the Hawkesbury would have done the same, and of course, our community was delighted with the new facility when it was built. It is vital that our Libraries are acknowledged, celebrated, valued and, above all else – loved.”

If you are not a member of the Library, it is a great day to join and it is free. If you are already a member bring along a friend and encourage them to join. Libraries in the 21^st century have much to offer. We not only have books, DVDs and run special events, we also have eBooks and Audiobooks online, databases to access, family history plus some wonderful spaces to read or study and free wifi.

Library Lovers' Day is a fun way of celebrating your enduring relationship for your library service; wherever you are on 14 February, love your library.
