National Volunteer Week 2024 – Something for Everyone

Hawkesbury City Council will be celebrating its volunteers during National Volunteer Week, 20 to 26 May 2024, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2024 is ‘Something for Everyone’, recognising that there’s a place for everyone in the world of volunteering.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Sarah McMahon believes it is a great opportunity to explore the diverse passions and talents everyone brings to the meaningful and generous act of volunteering.

“We have so many Hawkesbury residents who offer their personal time to help others and make our community a better place,” Mayor McMahon said.

"Most of us have met Emergency Services volunteers in the Hawkesbury who help us time and time again, and they are just one example of many volunteers we have.

“What’s amazing is that they don’t just help the Hawkesbury. They help communities much further afield and even overseas. Some volunteers even give their time freely across multiple organisations,” she said.

“Thank you, all of you, who volunteer in so many ways.

“Thank you also to our valued volunteers at Hawkesbury Bushcare and the Hawkesbury Community Nursery, Hawkesbury Library Service, the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery and the Hawkesbury Regional Museum, as well as those who manage our community facilities and assist in providing Council programs.”

Council will be treating Arts and Culture volunteers to an afternoon tea during the week to thank them for all the valuable work they do at the Library, Museum and Gallery.

Meet and greet our Hawkesbury Bushcare and Hawkesbury Community Nursery Volunteers

Want to join in thanking Council’s Hawkesbury Bushcare and Hawkesbury Community Nursery volunteers? Then come along to the special National Volunteer Week event on Wednesday, 22 May from 11am to 1pm at the Hawkesbury Community Nursery at 10 Mulgrave Road, Mulgrave. No bookings required and visitors will receive a free native plant and a complimentary hot tea, hot chocolate or coffee from an onsite barista coffee van.

“These are the volunteers who are restoring our natural habitat for our diverse wildlife,” Mayor McMahon said.

“They also propagate native plants that help to make the Hawkesbury Community Nursery such a great resource for our community and for our environment.

“If you have always thought of volunteering but you weren’t sure, this is the perfect chance for you to meet the dedicated team and ask questions of friendly volunteers and staff to find out what’s involved.”
