Bookmark Council’s Emergency Dashboard

27 May 2025

With the heavy rain and low-level flooding in our area last week, it’s a timely reminder that Council has a Disaster and Emergency Dashboard on this website that taps into all of the local emergency services for the latest information. A button to the dashboard is on our home page or you can follow the link above.

The NSW Government’s Hazards Near Me app is also another useful resource to have on your phone.

During such events, staff from Hawkesbury City Council drive around the LGA to check for flooding on local roads, communicating to other teams around the clock who update Live Traffic NSW.

While the rain has eased for now, if you haven’t already, make sure you’re prepared for the next crisis.

For instance, put all your important papers together so they’re ready to go if you have to rush off.

Think Birth Certificates and other identity documents, insurance documents, company papers, passports and any memorabilia you just can’t live without. These should be put into a watertight bag.

Have a plan for your household, which everyone is aware of, of whether you plan to remain at home or seek shelter elsewhere, where you might go to get to higher ground and your evacuation routes.

For instance, if you can’t leave your property, where can you shelter safely? Who will be responsible for turning off electricity, gas and water supplies? Where can you find sandbags, tape for windows and tie-down materials?

Make sure you have an emergency kit prepared too, which could contain phone charger, first aid kit, whistle, torch and batteries, portable radio, drinking water, combination pocketknife, spare keys, canned food and an opener, medications and toiletries. Find more information at the SES website.

Finally, NEVER drive through flood waters as they can be fast moving, unpredictable and dangerous.
